North American Indian Drama

Connect to Resource

The North American Indian Drama Collection represents the broadening field of Native American drama, theatrical scripts written by playwrights who are members of the Indigenous nations of North America.

It includes the full text of more than 256 plays by 49 playwrights. Many of the works are rare, hard-to-find, or out of print. Nearly a quarter of the collection will consist of previously unpublished plays. Each play is extensively and deeply indexed, allowing both keyword and multi-fielded searching. The plays are accompanied by reference materials, significant ancillary information, a rich performance database, and images.

Introductory essay by Native American drama scholar Christy Stanlake.

Canadian playwrights include: Joseph A. Dandurand, Shirley Cheechoo, Marie Humber Clements, Tomson Highway, Daniel David Moses, Yvette Nolan, Janet Rogers, Ian Ross, Juliette Koostachin Sutherland, and Drew Hayden Taylor.
