Help

Online in-depth Factiva users' guide. PDF.

Factiva includes Live Chat support which is accessible on the upper right hand side of the main search page if you click on the purple “Live Help” button. Available 24/7.

Note: Some newspapers are listed as being available in Factiva, but due to access restrictions for academic libraries, are not available at UBC Library. These include

  • Baltimore Sun
  • Chicago Tribune
  • Los Angeles Times

To creat a PURL (permanent URL) to an article: You need to use this long URL as a template. Replace [AN Document Number] with the actual document number. No spaces on the URL string!:

https://global.factiva.com/en/du/article.asp?NAPC=S&AccessionNo=[AN Document Number]&xsid=S003Wvf3cJ95DEs5DEnMTEqMTapODVyMHmnRsIuMcNG1pRRQUFBQUFBQUFBQUFBQUFBQUFBQUFBQUFBQUFBQUFBQUFBQQAA&cookie=on

And then run that URL through the OpenAthens Link Generator:

https://go.openathens.net/generate/ubc.ca/72086735

The resulting, even longer and % coded URL is the PURL. Note, some articles don't have an AN Document Number if they link to an external Open Access source. In which case, just use the external URL.
