《大公報》是我國迄今為止發行時間最長的中文報紙,也是中國近代史上最重要的民營報紙之一。上海圖書館《全國報刊索引》完成《大公報》數位化約235,000版,收錄天津、上海、漢口、香港、重慶、桂林多地出版的報紙。

1902年6月17日,《大公報》由英斂之於天津創辦,"忘己之為大,無私之謂公"即報名"大公"的寓意。 在胡政之、張季鸞、吳鼎昌三人聯手下,該報秉持"不黨、不賣、不私、不盲"的辦報理念,得以迅速崛起.《大公報》先後創辦了上海版、漢口版、香港版、重慶版和桂林版,影響遍及全國。
